Crafted for Safari Essentials by The Leather Alchemist: a journal that tells a story.

This journal was made just down the road in Hoedspruit, using sustainably vegetable-tanned leather from ethically sourced impala hides. Every mark, scar, and texture tells a story - of wild landscapes, conscious craftsmanship, and timeless design.

At The Leather Alchemist, leather is made with a soul - deeply connected to Africa’s landscapes and traditions. The hides come from conservation areas where animals roam freely. Each one carries its own history, proudly marked by nature. Their tannery runs on solar power, uses no electricity, and works with ingredients you’d find in a pantry: eggs from Kethilwe, a local supplier, mimosa bark, vinegar, and wheat bran. Even the waste is composted to nourish local gardens.

Every piece is hand-finished, blending traditional methods with modern purpose. We chose The Leather Alchemist because their values echo our own: respect for the wilderness, zero-waste processes, and a belief in the beauty of the journey.

Each A5 leather cover includes an inner notebook and is hand-stamped with our elephant icon on the cover.
